Online Team Building Original (5 Concepts)

Due to the current COVID-19 situation, many companies have found it necessary to conduct Online Team Building, to avoid both social and work-related distancing among employees. This also helps prevent remote workers from feeling excluded.

Moreover, this adaptation to online activities has a very positive aspect. It opens the door to conducting activities across different company locations, including international events.

For this reason, we bring you 5 ideas for an original Online Team Building experience:

1. Online Escape Room Tournament

Duration: 1h – 2h

What it is: You surely miss going out with your colleagues and having a good time enjoying an Escape Room. So why not do it now with your office mates? We present the Online Escape Room Tournament, adapted to the current COVID-19 situation so you can continue practicing teamwork skills, but this time in an online format. We are talking about an ideal gamification experience to unite remote teams. The experience can be chosen from a catalog, and participants will be divided into teams of 5-6 people.

Objective/Functioning: Participants compete in real-time to solve the online escape game. Each group must maintain excellent communication to solve the puzzles, and thus, the team with the best skills will be the winner.

2. Keyboard Emojis

Duration: 15 min – 30 min

What it is: In the 21st century, we can say that emojis are part of our daily lives. For this reason, they can be used in many ways; the one we are interested in is for Team Building but in an unusual way. To play in this dynamic, a list must be created and distributed to each player. Once the list is prepared with the names of each person, each participant has 3 minutes to guess the most commonly used emojis by each member of the list. Finally, the answers are revealed, and points are awarded for each correct emoji.

Objective/Functioning: Being a very fast and dynamic game, it will keep your team engaged without boredom. It’s a different way to play with your colleagues and a great icebreaker.

3. Virtual Campfire

Duration: 1.5h

What it is: This virtual campfire marks a new beginning for online Team Building activities. Who doesn’t love a real camping night without bugs or repellents? The event consists of a virtual campfire, which includes ghost stories, icebreaker games, small competitions, and real creations.

Objective/Functioning: To break the monotony of the current remote work situation. The intention of this campfire is to create a great spirit, share memories, and maintain commitment.

4. Bingo

Duration: 30 min – 1h

What it is: At some point in life, we’ve all played Bingo. So why not apply it as a quick game during a short work break to disconnect employees’ minds and help them return more efficiently and relaxed?

Objective/Functioning: One person must moderate the game. Throughout the game, phrases will be called out (for example, corporate phrases from the company, and each participant will have different phrases on their bingo card). If a player has the called phrase, they must cross it off until someone crosses them all off, becoming the winner.

5. Trivia

Duration: 60 min

What it is: Trivia can be seen as a personalized quiz. This can be used by companies to ensure employees remember new campaigns, product launches, corporate values… and always keep all company activities in mind.

Objective/Functioning: Teams must achieve the highest score to gain leadership and win the prize that their company surely offers. Teams can consist of members from different departments, showcasing true teamwork, as good communication will help them answer the questions correctly. The activity Common Sense presents a similar format, with various interactive challenges and content designed for an entertaining experience. Available in in-person, online, and hybrid formats.
